The regulatory operating fee is the one that gets missed
It is charged to shops based in a handful of countries, and the United Kingdom is one of them. At 0.48% of the item price plus shipping it looks too small to bother with, and on a thin margin it is not: it comes off every single order, forever, and it is the line most US-built calculators do not have at all. VAT applies to it where applicable.
The listing fee is in US dollars, not pounds
Etsy charges $0.20 USD to list, and again each time a listing renews after a sale. What lands on a UK statement is that amount converted, so it moves slightly with the exchange rate. The calculator treats it as a flat $0.20 because the variation is smaller than the rounding on everything else.
Processing is 4% here, not the 3% an American calculator assumes
The payment processing rate follows the country your shop is registered in, not the buyer's. A UK shop pays 4% plus 20p on the full amount the buyer paid, shipping included. On a £30 order that is about 34p more than the same order would cost a US shop, before the regulatory operating fee is added on top.

How much does Etsy take from a sale in the UK?
On a UK sale Etsy charges a $0.20 USD listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, payment processing at 4% plus £0.20 of the order total, and a 0.48% regulatory operating fee. If the order came through Offsite Ads, add 15% for a shop under $10,000 USD in the last 365 days or 12% for one above it. There is no single percentage, because the fixed amounts matter more on cheap orders than on expensive ones.
Do UK Etsy sellers pay the regulatory operating fee?
Yes. The United Kingdom is one of the countries where Etsy charges a regulatory operating fee, currently 0.48% of the item price plus shipping, on every order regardless of where the buyer is. It is subject to VAT where applicable. Etsy publishes the current rate on its own help pages and it has changed more than once, so treat that page as the authority.
Why is this calculator different from an American Etsy calculator?
Because two of the numbers genuinely differ. Payment processing for a UK shop is 4% plus £0.20 rather than the American 3% plus $0.25, and the UK also pays a regulatory operating fee that the United States does not pay at all. A calculator built on US rates will tell a UK seller they keep more than they do.
