What would a Shopify store really cost you?
Free planning tool · checked 2 Sep 2026
Put the whole operating picture in one place: the plan, payments, apps, domain, marketing and setup costs. Then see those chosen costs beside estimated Etsy selling fees.
This is a planning tool, not a switch recommendation. Etsy includes marketplace discovery. A Shopify store gives you more ownership, but you need to bring customers. The planner makes that marketing cost visible instead of silently treating it as zero.
What this counts
The planner uses current Shopify plan and standard domestic Shopify Payments rates for the selected country. It adds any domain, apps, marketing and other monthly costs you enter. If you choose a third-party payment provider, it combines the provider rate you enter with Shopify’s published third-party transaction fee for that plan.
What still needs judgement
- Traffic is not a platform fee. Etsy discovery is part of its marketplace; a Shopify store needs an audience, marketing, referrals or repeat buyers. Put a realistic budget in the marketing field rather than assuming it is free.
- Different payment types cost differently. International cards, premium cards, currency conversion, taxes, returns and chargebacks can change the actual bill.
- Some costs are choices. Shopify includes hosting and free themes, but a custom domain, paid theme, apps, a developer or POS tools can add cost depending on the business.
Use this as a transparent operating-cost estimate, then check your Shopify bill, payment terms and marketing plan before choosing a platform.
Explore Shopify when you are ready
Shopify is one option for sellers who want an independent storefront. Review its current plans and terms before you decide.
