What a Canadian Etsy seller actually keeps from a sale
A Canadian shop pays a regulatory operating fee that an American one does not, and a different processing rate once the buyer is outside North America. This one runs in Canadian dollars, on the rates a Canadian shop is actually charged.

Every Etsy fee on a sale from Canada
| Fee | What it is charged on | Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 USD per listing, converted to Canadian dollars | $0.20 |
| Transaction fee | On the item price plus shipping and gift wrapping | 6.5% |
| Payment processing, Canadian and US orders | Percentage of the order total plus a fixed amount | 3% + C$0.25 |
| Payment processing, other countries | The same fee, one percentage point higher | 4% + C$0.25 |
| Regulatory operating fee | On the item price plus shipping, Canadian shops only | 0.50% |
| Offsite Ads | Only on orders that came through one of those ads | 15% or 12% |
Canada pays a regulatory operating fee, the United States does not
It is 0.50% of the item price plus shipping and it comes off every order, whoever bought and wherever they are. That is the line that makes an American calculator wrong for a Canadian shop: half a percent sounds like rounding until it is half a percent of every sale for the life of the shop.
Orders from outside Canada and the US cost one percent more to process
Etsy charges a Canadian shop 3% plus 25c on orders from Canadian and American buyers, and 4% plus 25c on orders from anywhere else. The calculator uses the 3% rate, which covers most Canadian shops most of the time. If your buyers are largely in Europe or Australia, add about a percent of the order.
The listing fee is quoted in US dollars
Etsy lists it as $0.20 USD, charged when you list and again each time a listing renews after a sale. On a Canadian statement it appears converted, so the exact figure moves with the exchange rate. It is a small number either way, but on a multi-quantity listing it is charged once per item sold rather than once per listing, which is where it stops being small.
Questions Canadian sellers ask
How much does Etsy take from a sale in Canada?
On a Canadian sale Etsy charges a $0.20 USD listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, payment processing of 3% plus C$0.25 on orders from Canadian and American buyers or 4% plus C$0.25 on orders from elsewhere, and a 0.50% regulatory operating fee. If the order came through Offsite Ads, add 15% for a shop under $10,000 USD in the last 365 days or 12% for one above it.
Do Canadian Etsy sellers pay the regulatory operating fee?
Yes. Canada is one of the countries where Etsy charges a regulatory operating fee, currently 0.50% of the item price plus shipping, on every order regardless of the buyer's location. Etsy publishes the current rate on its own help pages and has changed it before, so treat that page as the authority rather than this one.
Is the Etsy fee calculator different for Canadian sellers?
It has to be. A Canadian shop pays a 0.50% regulatory operating fee that an American shop does not pay at all, and its payment processing is charged in Canadian dollars with a higher rate once the buyer is outside Canada and the United States. A calculator built on US rates will overstate what a Canadian seller keeps.

Use the rate for your shop
Payment processing and regulatory fees depend on where your shop is registered. Start with the UK calculator, Australia calculator, or Canada calculator when one of those rates applies to you.
