A sale changes the fees as well as the price

When the item price falls, Etsy's percentage-based fees fall too. Your materials, labour and postage do not. That is why a discount can cut a much larger share of profit than it cuts from the customer-facing price.

This check is especially useful before running an automatic shop sale. Test a low-priced, a typical and a high-cost item, not only the product with the most comfortable margin. A flat percentage promotion does not land evenly across a handmade range.

Try the real worst case. If an order can also be attributed to an Offsite Ad, run it through the Offsite Ads calculator before choosing a discount. The combined result may be very different from the standard sale result.

What this estimate does and does not cover

The calculator uses a US$0.20 listing fee, Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee, and the processing rate you enter. It excludes Offsite Ads, Share & Save, country-specific regulatory fees, tax, currency conversion and refunds. Check the Etsy fee guide and your payment account before setting a shop-wide promotion.
