Free shipping is a price decision, not a free cost

“Free shipping” can be perfectly sensible, but it means the product price must carry both the postage and the marketplace fees on that price. When postage rises or a destination costs more, the promise does not automatically become more affordable for the seller.

Use the actual postage for the destination and parcel you expect. If prices vary a lot, test the costly destination rather than an optimistic average. The amount left needs to cover the work, the materials and the risk in the order, not just the postage label.

Compare both presentations. Run the same order once with postage included in the item price and once with shipping charged separately in the main Etsy calculator. The fee base can differ, and the comparison makes the trade-off visible before you change a listing.

Assumptions in this calculation

This estimate includes a US$0.20 listing fee, Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee, the payment processing rate you enter, product costs and absorbed postage. It excludes advertising fees, Share & Save, country-specific regulatory fees, taxes, currency conversion and refunds. See every Etsy fee explained for details.
