The short version. This calculator gives you an estimate based on the numbers you type in and Etsy's published fee rates. It's a useful guide, not a substitute for your actual Etsy statements or advice from an accountant. Use it freely; check anything important against your real figures.

What this service is
Handmade Margin provides a free calculator that estimates what a seller keeps from a sale after marketplace fees and their own costs. It is an independent tool, built and operated from Queensland, Australia. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or certified by Etsy, Inc. "Etsy" is a trademark of Etsy, Inc.
A paid, shop-wide version of the tool is in development. It is not available yet. The signup box on the calculator is a waitlist: joining it costs nothing, creates no account, and is not a purchase or a pre-order.
The estimates, and their limits
We want to be straightforward about what the numbers mean, because a calculator that overstates its own accuracy is worse than useless.
- The results are estimates, calculated from the figures you enter and from Etsy's publicly published fee rates as we understood them on the date shown on the calculator page.
- Fee rates change. Etsy can and does alter its fees, and may apply fees, taxes, currency conversion charges or country-specific levies that this calculator does not model.
- The calculator does not account for everything. Advertising you buy yourself, subscriptions, refunds, chargebacks, currency conversion, income tax and GST or VAT are outside what it covers.
- Your actual Etsy statements are the authority, not this tool. Where the two disagree, believe Etsy.
We take reasonable care to keep the fee rates current, but we don't warrant that the results are accurate, complete or suitable for your particular circumstances.

We don't know your business, your tax position or your obligations. Decisions about pricing, tax and how you run your business are yours, and for anything consequential you should speak to a qualified accountant or adviser who can look at your actual situation.
Using the site
You may use the calculator for your own business purposes, commercial or otherwise, free of charge. Please don't:
- attempt to break, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the site or its systems;
- scrape or bulk-download the site, or use automated tools to submit the forms;
- copy the site's code, design or written content to republish as your own; or
- use the site in a way that breaks any law that applies to you.
Our content
The design, text and code of this site belong to us. The figures you enter and the results you get from them are yours. Do whatever you like with them.
Availability
This is a free tool and we make no promise that it will always be available, or that it will be maintained indefinitely. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it. We'll try to give notice of significant changes but aren't always able to.
Liability
Your rights under Australian Consumer Law are not affected by anything in these terms. If the Australian Consumer Law applies to you, our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded, restricted or modified. Nothing here limits or excludes those guarantees, or any other right you have that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Subject to that, and to the fullest extent the law permits: we provide this free tool "as is"; we are not liable for loss or damage arising from your reliance on its estimates, including lost profits, mispricing, or tax consequences; and where our liability can be limited but not excluded, it is limited to resupplying the service or paying the cost of doing so.
We say this not to dodge responsibility but because a free estimator cannot carry the risk of decisions made about a business it knows nothing about. Check important numbers against your real statements.
Privacy
How we handle information is set out in our Privacy Policy. In brief: the calculator runs in your browser and your figures never reach us, we set no cookies, and we only hold an email address if you give us one.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when we last did. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Disputes are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland. If you're a consumer in another country, this doesn't deprive you of the protection of mandatory laws where you live.
